Focusing on locals and migrants, this project aimed to bridge different communities in the City of Sanctuary, Coventry. In the industrial and vibrant atmosphere, visitors can explore and experience different cultures through a range of programs and facilities. With transparency, exchanging cultures and gaining more knowledge from
each other believed can consolidate the kinship between
the communities.

// LOCATION
THE ELEPHANT BUILDING is located in Coventry, United Kingdom. It was completed in 1976 as a sport centre by Coventry City Architects Department. 
​
Today, this building was listed as one of the most threatened building to be demolished since the it is not fully occupied by the society anymore.

// SITE LOCATION
Entering from ground floor, an additional staircase bridge is added to attract visitors' attention since the previous design does not has a clear entrance. It consists of 2 escalators (going up and down) and 1 staircase in the middle.

To provide them a space where they can know one another by listening to their stories. Moreover, they can gain their knowledge and skills by learning from each others.

The overall mood and material choices are inspired from the existing site (exterior and interior). The intention is to keep the uniqueness of the building. Blending industrial mood with vibrant colours, it can trigger visitors' psychology and emotion. Other natural materials also bring comfort to the atmosphere. Moreover, translucent materials are also applied to bring transparency to the interior.

The space will be classified into 3 different programs. There will be XCHANGE for collaboration, XPERIENCE for exhibition and performances, and XPLORE for skill expansion.
